Hawthorn Timber believes that timber is one of the earths most important resources and that we should protect our natural environment and provide a renewable source of materials.
EUTR (European Timber Regulations EU No. 995/2010) came into force March 2013, which prohibits illegally harvested timber and timber products being placed onto the EU market.
As an "Operator" (first placers of timber or derived products on the EU market) we work with a "due diligence system” (DDS) to minimise the risk of placing illegal timber on the market. A DDS consists of three fundamental elements: information, risk assessment and risk mitigation. As an "operator" we confirm we have a DDS in place and will be audited in due course by a Monitoring Organisation (MO) whom is recognised by the European Commission and controlled by national authorities.
As a "trader" our obligation is to keep records of whom we buy and sell to.

Our sawmill compromises of 7 moulding machines; 5 Weinigs, 1 Wadkin, and 1 Robinson, which are spread across 2 sites boasting some of the most advanced milling facilities in Yorkshire. Using the latest CNC technology our state-of-the-art moulders provide a fast, accurate and competitively priced profiles. The latest addition, Powermat 2400, aids us with the demanding requirements of everyday multiples shift operations as well as flexibility.
Our sawmill consists of 2 Stenner ST105 Single and Twin Re-saws which enables us to achieve high yield, top quality and more efficient production of sawn material; along with the capability of tilting the feed works allowing us to produce precision angled cutting.
All 4 of our precision cross cut machines are ‘Weinigs’. Our Grencon OPTICUT 104R enables us to programme electronically and aids up when working with complex cutting lists. The other 3 cross cut machines are DIMTER OPITCUT S75, meaning all 4 CNCs have the capabilities to optimize, reduce the speed of the saw to focus on the finish, and also reduce the speed of the push feed if we have items on the bed that may slide. We also have the additional feature of the machines being able to calculate the pieces required or even left to finish an order.
Each of our Weinig machines are serviced annually by Weinig.
Our Fischer heat fabric machine has a maximum capability of wrapping products with the dimension size of 170mm wide by 160mm in height, with a maximum running speed of 45m/min with a running temperature of 20 degrees.
On-Site Priming The ‘Palmer Primer Vacuum Coater VC4’ has been designed to coat both timber and MDF mouldings using water-based primers, paints, lacquers and stains. The advanced vacuum coating process enables fast changeover times between sections and allows more complex mouldings such as torus, ogee and dado rail to be coated just as easily as PSE or window board sections. A variable speed power feed is fitted allowing for feed speeds of between 11 and 40m/min, and any paint not applied to the mouldings is recirculated and reused which reduces our waste.
